Through innovations developed in the
vestibular research community, Neuro Kinetics, Inc. (NKI) provides
clinicians with a state-of-the-art neuro-otologic testing
system.
Neuro Kinetics is the pioneer of the
modern Barany (or rotary) Chair System; manufacturing
neuro-otologic testing solutions for the clinical market
since 1984. Carrying the CE Mark and FDA 510K, the NKI
system enables clinicians to benefit from the latest
technological advances in both engineering and clinical
research. Working with many of the world's top
vestibular researchers, NKI is uniquely positioned to
incorporate the latest technologies and introduce new
standards for leading-edge, user-friendly clinical systems.
The NKI Barany (rotary) Chair System
creates a stimulus through programmed sinusoidal and
trapezoidal motion profiles, and measures the response
to that stimulus, the Vestibulo-ocular Reflex Arc.
Neuro Kinetics' System Advantages:
- Provides the power and precision to test patients
up to 400 pounds, is smooth (velocity ripple is less
than .3% and torque ripple less than .1%) and accurate
to 20 arc seconds. The cornerstone of the Barany Chair
System is NKI's patented digital
servo-motor set. The direct drive motor set is
tuned through the PC, lowering maintenance demands
and the cost of ownership.
- Fiber-optic slip rings allow for the purest, noise-free transmission of digital data and expanded data
collection capabilities. The noiseless data transmission
allows collection of more delicate, physiological signals.
- Modular design supports affordable system upgrades
if the clinician chooses to add additional functionality
at a later date.
- Operating software VEST™ 6.0 has
been overhauled to create both robust analytical algorithms
and an intuitive user-friendly Windows® style graphical
user interface. Neuro Kinetics' new design has built-in flexibility that allows protocols to be changed
during patient testing and can increase clinic productivity.
- Provides the most sophisticated system for infant
testing and is the first to commercially integrate
the otolith test developed by Dr. Floris Wuyts at Belgium's
Antwerp University Hospital.
Reimbursement:
Reimbursement procedures already exist
allowing the clinician to recoup costs from the use of
the Barany Chair System. There are currently seven CPT
codes for balance testing. Neuro Kinetics has designed
its products to ensure they qualify for reimbursement
under these procedures. As a result, the potential value
to a clinician is quite compelling. (Please contact Neuro
Kinetics for more information on reimbursement and ROI.)
Other Details:
The Barany Chair can be supplied as
a complete testing center with isolation enclosure, testing
accessories, eye tracking devices and operational software.
See the full line of clinical products on the Clinical
Products page. Designed for long life, the BCS will
both significantly enhance testing capability and provide
a healthy ROI.
NKI has supplied Barany Chair Systems
to hospitals and universities around the world. Most
recently NKI has designed and built systems for:
- Johns Hopkins University
- Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary
- Mayo Clinic
